We accept all major credit cards. We are a Dallas Metrocare Service provider for MHMR of Dallas County, Texas. DEVELOPMENTAL EVALUATION: Developmental evaluations consist of a 2-3 hour initial consultation with adult family members and a separate 1 hour play and language assessment of the child in the playroom. During the initial consultation Dr. MacAlpine will review the Dallas Sensory Protocols and interview the parents about the medical and developmental history of the child. Dr. MacAlpine will also discuss with family members how brains develop language and cognitive skills and strategies and techniques for stimulating developmental progress. Copies of both books are provided at the consultation. PLEASE DO NOT bring your child to the consultation. This makes it very difficult to share information with the parents and it is very difficult for children to wait while the information is reviewed. Children are seen in a separate 1 hour evaluation of play and language in the playroom. The child's session is scheduled at the time of the consultation.SENSORY PROCESSING EVALUATION: Assessments consist of a tests of auditory, visual, and vestibular processing functions. Tests include the SCAN-C or SCAN-A: (test of auditory processing), the PTS: (computerized test of visual processing skills), an evaluation of major vestibular functions using a sharpened Romberg stance in light and dark, examination of post-rotary nystagmus (eye movements after spinning), and visual pursuit (smooth tracking of a moving target). Testing takes approximately 3 hours, which includes a review of results. EVALUATION OF ATTENTION DEFICIT: Assessments for ADD consist of a review of medical history, the auditory, visual, and vestibular processing battery and a frontal lobe or pragmatic language assessment. Frontal lobe functions are assessed with the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and pragmatic language is assessed using a natural language sample. Testing takes approximately 3 hours. ACADEMIC AND COGNITIVE TESTING: Assessment of academic or cognitive abilities involve one or more of the following tests: Woodcock-Johnson III Cognitive or Achievement Batteries, the MAT (Matrix Analogies Test), the RIAT (Reynolds Intelligence Assessment Test) or the WRAT (Wide Range Achievement Test). The WJIII takes 4-6 hours (test is administered in a minimum of 2 testing sessions), the MAT takes 1 hour, the WRAT takes 1 hour and the RIAT takes 2 hours. DEVELOPMENTAL OR SENSORY PROCESSING THERAPY: Developmental therapy is conducted in a free play setting in the playroom; parents are encouraged to attend sessions and younger siblings are welcome. Sign language and gestures are used to help children attach meaning to words. Sessions are intended to be used as an opportunity for parents to learn some sign language, developmental strategies, basic principles of brain development, and techniques for developing language and play skills. If desired, sessions may be intermittently videotaped to record developmental progress (a signed video release must be on file before videotaping). Sessions are scheduled in either two 30 minute blocks per week or 1 hour block per week.
