Children with
neurological or developmental
disorders often have concurrent
immune issues (e.g. allergies,
abnormal immune responses, etc.) that
can affect rehabilitation efforts. In
vitro allergy tests can help
determine whether common food or
inhalant allergies are involved.
In vitro testing (e.g.
ELISA, Pharmacia CAP, etc.) have good
accuracy and some researchers have
found them more accurate than the
older skin prick methods for certain
allergies.
The CPT codes for some
of the more common allergens are
listed below. If a child has a
household pet or if citrus or other
foods are commonly present in their
diet, these titers should be added to
the panel.
